Colorado Leadership Training!

Hello friends!!

I honestly thought that I would be blogging a lot and updating people more but I haven't really been using technology too often! It's about to be week 5 here in Colorado and I can't believe how time is flying. After this week is over, I'm halfway through my leadership training and time here. Crazy. But anyways, I love it here! Hiking is always fun and challenging at this high altitude. I can definitely say that walking around here and hiking is helping me to get into shape and that when I go back home, running will be a piece of cake.

Work in the food service is going well. I just got promoted yesterday to supervisor! Also, I've met a lot of people from all of the world. I have made friends with people from Macedonia, France, Jamaica, Philippines, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey, and then a bunch of places in the states! It's fun learning about all of the cultures and learning languages. I've learned a few words in Thai, some Turkish, and Czech. It's awesome!

I've also been meeting a lot of people through the leadership training program and I have become so close with a few girls from Bowling Green State University! I'm so blessed to work with these girls because they are definitely a light to me and help me get through each work shift!

I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know their life. I've shared my testimony with people now about ten times and I've heard probably about 15 to 20 testimonies. It's amazing to see how God is working in people's lives. God has brought up a lot for me since I've been here. I'm now working on my relationship with my dad, I am working on giving up idolizing money, I am most definitely not seeking attention as I used to, and I'm really working on community and just being there for other people and listening to what they have without saying anything until they're done talking. It has been an emotional roller coaster and I can say I've been frustrated, happy, annoyed, sad, crying, and smiling these past few weeks but that's okay because I can see that God is growing me in ways I would've never imagined!

I've gone into town in Estes which is really fun and the other day I went down the mountains into Loveland for a bit and got to visit this really awesome coffee shop called "Coffee Tree" and just hangout with my girl, Lacy who is one of the girls that goes to BGSU and who I've grown to love so much!

The scenery here is just breathtaking. Even though I'm surrounded by mountains 24/7 and see them all day, every day, I always am blown away by how beautiful God's creation is! The streams and rivers and so clear and really peaceful to sit by and just listen to. I hope to go white water rafting, horseback riding, and on as many hikes as possible before I leave! I've been playing a lot of mini-golf lately since they have a course right on the YMCA property and it's free. Ohio State is having a huge tournament and I made it to round two but today I unfortunately lost to a great friend. However, it was really fun and I set my personal best score so it was still a win for both of us in my book.

I am in love with this place, although I do miss my friends and family at home and I miss the Columbus city life. I am excited to see what God has in store for me the rest of the time that I'm here. I know I definitely have already been overwhelmed by what he's showing me and I can't imagine what else He could possibly grow me in but I know there's plenty more to come.

I'm about to go hike Bible Point mountain and spend some time with God when I get up there! Have a wonderful rest of you day everyone and thanks for reading!! :)

Leadership Training in Ministry!

Today is the third day I've been here (second full day) and it is absolutely gorgeous! The mountains are beautiful and like nothing I've seen and the peace and quiet is absolutely wonderful. On my first day here, I ate dinner, got to know some people, and just walked around to get a feel for the place. Yesterday, I was pretty busy with YMCA orientation all day, worship, LT registration, LT project group meeting, and our first LT session! During orientation, I learned a lot of things but what I loved most about it was the wildlife section. There are many animals out here and I learned how to deal with elk, black bears, and mountain lions if I ever come across one! I hope to encounter a bear at least once and maybe see a mountain lion from afar. Worship and the LT session were amazing. I was able to sing my heart out with hundreds of other people and just get fired up for God!!

After a night of sleep, unfortunately I woke up with some altitude sickness but no worries, I'm starting to feel better! Today has been eventful and is not nearly done yet. I went to two sessions for LT orientation, went to spend a good hour and a half alone with God by the stream, and then had a huge scavenger hunt of taking pictures! It has been a lot of fun so far. Later, we are supposed to have another session and I can't wait!

Tomorrow is my first day of work in the Aspen dining hall because I'm in the food service department. I'm not really sure what to expect but I will update everyone on how that goes eventually!

Walking around the hills and mountains is really exhausting though because of less oxygen and the altitude level. I'm currently typing from around 8,000+ feet above sea level! Crazy. The weather here has been up and down. At night and in the morning it ranges from like 35-50 degrees and during the day it ranges from around 60-80 degrees! Good thing I packed winter and summer clothing!

Prayer with God has been pretty good so far. He is really opening me up to some things already. Unfortunately I found out that a friend at home is having heart problems and is in the intensive care unit and my father is now on a heart monitor because his heart isn't doing too well. But I know that I just have to trust God with all of these things going on. I think I really want to work on surrendering every aspect of my life to God instead of giving Him some aspects and then telling myself I can control the other aspects.

I'm nervous to see what God has coming to me this summer and I know it's probably going to be difficult, challenging, and at times exhausting. However, I know that God has a plan and even in the darkness, He does everything with a purpose and to show me something even if I can't see why or what it is.

That's all for now! Check out my pictures on Facebook and keep checking back here.

Love and Blessings from Colorado <3

Personal Testimony

I didn't grow up in a family who went to church every weekend. I didn't go to religion like the majority of my friends. I didn't read the Bible or know much about God. My mom is Greek Orthodox and my dad is Catholic. When I actually did go to church, I was splitting my time between the two and not really taking away anything from either one. That's not to say that the beliefs or practices are wrong, it just wasn't for me. When I was a freshman in high school, my best friend Alexis invited me to youth group with her at the Chapel at Crosspoint, which is a Christian church. I loved the message and going to small group so much that I decided that night to give my life to Jesus. However, I don't think I fully understood what that exactly meant and the sacrifice would be. I kept on living life almost the same with some added prayers and going to church weekly. I was going through the motions but not really doing anything to actually live a life filled with God. Things got bad at home between my parents and between my dad and I. Everything was starting to add up around my junior year in high school and I was taking it all to heart. I hid the pain and hurt from everyone, even the majority of my best friends had no idea. I was shutting God out of almost all aspects of my life and trying to control my life. I went to bed crying almost every single night. I heard of others using self-harm as a way to cope so I began to use it as my way to cope. I was this girl who seemed like everything was okay on the outside but deep down, I was slowly losing any grip I had on my life. It got so bad to the point where I actually contemplated suicide. Thankfully I talked to a friend about it and she helped me through it. However, the struggles still were there and I continued to harm myself.
During senior year, things started to look better. I went months without harming myself and I was content with most aspects of my life. I just received my letter of acceptance from THE Ohio State University which was my dream school. I had an amazing job with amazing friends who loved me. But the excitement started to slowly die down and once again, I began the self harm.
I came to college with the hopes of starting new because I was not known by one single person on campus. I decided to go to a church on campus called h2o. I felt so lost in life that finally I thought maybe going to church would help. That was the best decision of my life. Since September of 2012, I have been to church every weekend, I greet at church, I was baptized this past November by one of my best friends, I went to a fall retreat, and spent a week in South Carolina on a church trip focusing on the love of Jesus. This past March marks a year that I have been clean from self harm.
I am so happy with my life. When I feel like I'm struggling, hurt, or not myself, I pray about it and turn to the love of Jesus for security and strength. And He never fails to provide me with just that and much more. The community I have at church is the most amazing bond and friendships I've ever seen and have experienced. I am living such a different life now. I don't seek attention from people to try and be happy. I decided to give up drinking because I was doing stupid things while I did. And I have decided to fully surrender my life to Jesus and just trust in God's plans.

Life is so beautiful. I can't imagine missing out on all of this, had I committed suicide. Yes, I am broken, sinful, and imperfect. But I'm also forgiven, filled with grace and love, and made clean by God's word. <3

Today's Sermon

It's amazing how broken, fragile, decaying, and impure we are here on earth. Yet when we know Jesus and then die, death is overcome and we live an eternal life in Heaven. We are made strong, pure from the inside out, glorious, and powerful. We are currently these tiny little seeds that are imperfect and are just "okay." But if we know Jesus during life on earth and then we die, we turn into the beautiful flowers that the seeds were made to turn into. We turn into these flowers because all of our life as a seed, Jesus is loving us and we are loving back and investing our time in living a life for Jesus.

Imagine the most beautiful thing or place you have ever seen. That is just a tiny picture of what you will look like and what your life will look like once you die. Words can't even capture how amazing and beautiful eternal life will be.

I can't wait to one day be in Heaven with Jesus and family and friends who have passed and also knew the Lord <3

Life Without God

I don't understand how someone could live a life without God. I try to think of my life without God and I can't help but feel emptiness. I can't even imagine there being no God. If I didn't read the Bible, I would honestly not have any life guidelines, I would have no self forgiveness or forgiveness for anybody else. I would feel as if my life was not fulfilled and like I was living for no reason; after all, I live this life with the purpose that God gave me and to one day go on to eternal life in Heaven. What would I do when I felt empty, alone, helpless, or broken? Where would I take all of my mistakes? What or who would I thank for all of the awesome and amazing things in my life? What book would I read for any answers that I needed in my life? I would probably need a million different books that thought they had the right answers to life. Who would I put my trust in? I would have to plan every aspect in my life and hope that my plan comes together. I would have to find joy and happiness in materialistic things and other people who are just as broken if not even more broken than I. All of the weight of the brokenness of the world, my faults, shame, guilt, and every aspect in life would reside on my shoulders. I just can't imagine.

If I didn't have God and Jesus, I would definitely be lost. I would have to put my trust in others and confide in other people's word. That's one scary thought because everyone is broken and sinful since nobody is perfect. People are always letting people down, breaking promises, walking in and out of others' lives, and not living up to the high expectations that we set for them.

When someone hurts me, I pray for them. When somebody needs help and is broken (including myself), I pray. When I don't know what to do in a situation, I pray. For everything, I try to look to God for answers whether it's by prayer, worship, or the Bible. Take that all away from me and I'm left with no answers and a whole lot of sadness, emptiness, and I would be absolutely at a loss of words.

If you're a believer, try to imagine your life without God. I know I sure can't.
